La ola del Lago Language Ambassadors

Where language leads, and culture connects.

Empowering future educators to bring language to life and build lasting cultural bridges in every classroom.

At La Ola del Lago, we believe the best way to learn a language is to live it. That’s why we partnered with Amity International on the Language Ambassadors program — a unique exchange program that brings Spanish-speaking individuals from Spanish-speaking countries to our classrooms.

These future educators immerse themselves in our dual-language school community and classrooms for an entire school year; but they bring so much more than academic support — they bring authentic culture, global perspective, and language fluency into every interaction.

FAQs

  • La Ola Del Lago typically welcomes 5 to 7 Language Ambassadors each school year.

This incredible program is made possible thanks to the generous support of the LODL PTC, which fully funds the experience — helping bring native Spanish-speaking educators into our classrooms and community.

  • Language Ambassadors typically arrive in late August and stay through early June, aligning with the full academic school year.

Their time here allows them to build strong relationships, fully engage in the classroom, and become a meaningful part of both their host family and the La Ola community.

  • Each host family is asked to commit to one semester — either fall or spring.

Language Ambassadors switch host families at the halfway point of the school year, giving more families the opportunity to participate and share in this unique cultural exchange.

  • Language Ambassadors work directly in the classroom alongside our teachers and students.

They support learning by leading small groups, providing one-on-one instruction, and assisting with classroom projects and cultural activities. Their presence not only enhances instruction — it brings language and culture to life for our students every day.

Lindy Ash, Previous Host Family:

"Our kids loved having a 'big sis,' sharing traditions, and speaking Spanish daily—hosting an LODL Language Ambassador was truly unforgettable."

Andrea (24-25 Language Ambassador)

“What I’ll cherish most from my time in the U.S. are the incredible host families who welcomed me as one of their own and made every moment unforgettable. I feel so lucky to have built such strong connections and lasting memories with both.”
